Jia Tolentino captures our unhinged times
BEST AMERICAN ESSAYS 2025 Guest Editor: "Much of what we see now is fake."
Last weekend, The New Yorker published “My Brain Finally Broke,” an essay by Jia Tolentino, guest editor of The Best American Essays 2025.
If you like her essay, keep a lookout for her introduction to the fortieth volume of The Best American Essays, whose publication we’ll be announcing in this newsletter.
I read her essay a few dahs ago. She certainly captures the nightmare we are all living. She and Adam Gopnik have to be the most productive contemporary essayists we have. Beautiful writers who always teach me a thing or two on the art of composition.
What the fuck was that word salad of an opening. This is what you call a best essay? Are you guys on drugs or does any “Trump won and I feel bad about it” essay get through your filters?
